Fresno, Calif. - Anna Kertes and Karolina Hlavata combined for seven goals while Michele Relton held Fresno Pacific to just two goals as the No. 14 Pacific women's water polo team won it's sixth in a row, 10-2, Saturday.
Kertes scored four goals while Hlavata added three in the contest. Pacific built an 8-1 lead and Relton tallied 13 saves as the Tigers improve to 12-9 overall, 3-1 in Golden Coast Conference action.
Kertes scored twice in the first quarter, with Hlavata adding a marker for a 3-0 lead after one quarter. Ellen Tiedemann made it 4-0 Pacific early in the third quarter. Kertes and Hlavata scored on back-to-back possessions to stretch the lead to 6-0 before the Sunbirds finally broke through on a goal by Julia Ponce.
Kertes and Hlavata opened the fourth quarter with two more goals, and after Emily Knowles cut the gap to 8-2, the Tigers closed the scoring with goals from Aelish Guinn and Morgan Hurley.
Pacific killed off all six FPU six-on-five opportunities, and have held opponents at bay in 26 of 28 shorthanded situations during the Tigers' six-game win streak.
Fresno Pacific falls to 7-21 overall, and 0-5 in GCC action. Pacific moved to within a half-game of conference leader San Diego State, the lone GCC team to beat the Tigers this season, while moving a half-game up on idle Loyola Marymount (2-1 GCC).
Pacific is back in action on Friday, April 17 at noon against Cal Baptist at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.
