Irvine, Calif. - The No. 19 Pacific women's water polo team posted a pair of victories at the UC Irvine Invitational Sunday, downing No. 14 Michigan 7-6 and No. 18 UC Santa Barbara, 8-4.
Anna Kertes posted seven of the Tigers' 15 goals on the day, while Taylor Adair and Brydie Pye each added two. Rachel Krieger, Ellen Tiedemann and Megan Torre also tallied for Pacific.
The Tigers' defense held Michigan to just one goal in the second half, as Pacific outscored the Wolverines 3-1 in the final 16 minutes to take the 7-6 decision.
Michele Relton made nine saves in goal against Michigan, while Kertes powered the offense with four goals. Adair, Tiedemann and Torre also scored.
In the finale, Relton shut down the Gauchos, holding UC Santa Barbara to four goals while posting 15 saves. UCSB scored just two goals in the final three quarters of action.
The Tigers took a 3-2 lead after one quarter, and stretched the margin to 5-3 before a three-goal finish in the fourth quarter. Kertes tallied the hat trick while Pye scored twice. Adair and Krieger also found the back of the cage for Pacific.
Pacific improves to 4-5 on the year after going 2-2 in the UC Irvine Invitational and placing 13th of 16 schools.
The Tigers are back in action March 7-8 at the UC Davis Aggie Shootout, where Pacific will face Wagner, UCSB, Santa Clara and UC Davis.
