Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's basketball team controlled the second half en route to a 74-52 win over Nevada Thursday at the Alex G. Spanos Center. Hailie Eackles led a balanced attack with 16 points while Ameela li posted a career-best nine assists to go with 10 points. Emily Simons chipped in 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting while Desire Finnie added 10 points.
The Tigers never trailed as they posted their third win in a row and improved to 7-4 on the season. Pacific got more and more crisp as the game progressed, committing just four second-half turnovers. Pacific outscored Nevada 44-29 in the second half, shooting 53 percent in the final 20 minutes.
For the game, the Tigers forced 27 Nevada turnovers and turned the miscues into 28 points. Pacific also held a 46-20 edge in points in the paint.
Li set a new career high in assists for the third-straight game and now has 22 assists in her three games as a starter. She also added four steals and five rebounds, while connecting on 5-of-8 shooting. Simon grabbed seven rebounds to go with her 15 points. Eackles hit 4-of-9 from three-point range and 5-of-10 from the field in the contest. Najah Queenland added six points with a pair of steals and assists.
Pacific jumped out to a 9-3 lead and held a 30-23 lead at half. The Tigers shot 42 percent in the first half, but 11 turnovers helped Nevada hang around at the break.
Queenland found Clayton underneath to give Pacific a 2-0 lead. The Tigers added a bucket from Erin Butler off a Queenland steal, and a Finnie steal and runout gave Pacific a 7-2 lead. Queenland drove and finished with the left hand but Nevada answered back with a lay-in to cut Pacific's lead to 12-10 at the end of the first quarter.
The Tigers forced eight turnovers, but committed seven themselves.
Li picked up a steal and went coast-to-coast for a 16-12 Pacific lead early in the second. Finnie added a turn-round jumper and Pacific led 20-16 with 4:50 to go before the half.
Eackles knocked down a triple and the Tigers held the Wolf Pack scoreless for 3:32 before a three-pointer from Stephanie Schmid. Butler drove and finished and Eackles connected again. Camariah King hit a runner for Nevada, but Finnie hit a turn-around jumper before the end of the half as Pacific led 30-23 at the break.
Pacific turned 14 first-half Nevada turnovers into 14 points, but the Tigers committed 11 turnovers themselves as the Wolf Pack hung around.
Butler drained a triple, and Eackles knocked down a fadeaway for a 35-27 lead two minutes into the third quarter. Eackles added a three-pointer, but Nevada's A.J. Cephas added a bucket inside. Simons answered back off a dish inside from Eackles.
Simons hit another jumper, as the Tigers carried a 52-41 lead into the fourth quarter.
Another Simons finish and another Eackles triple helped Pacific stretch the lead to 12, at 59-47 with 6:09 to play.
Simons finished off an and-one and Unique Coleman sliced to the rim for a bucket starting a 12-0 run by Pacific to stretch the lead to 24 before Nevada scored with six seconds to go to settle on the final margin.
Schmid finished with 15 points to lead Nevada, while Cephas added 11 with nine boards. Nyasha LeSure chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds. The Wolf Pack fall to 1-9 on the season.
Pacific will open West Coast Conference play on Monday at Santa Clara in a 6 p.m. tip-off.
