Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific men's tennis team posted six victories on the opening day of the 2015 Pacific Tigers Invitational, led by Sem Verbeek advancing into the Flight A semifinals.
Verbeek won his Round of 16 match over Nash Vollenweider of Saint Mary's in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. He moved on to face Tommy Lam of UC Davis in the quarterfinals, and swept 6-2, 6-1.
Also in Flight A, Bernardo Oliveira locked up with Thomas Alex Hunt of Saint Mary's in a marathon, with Hunt sneaking by, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (1).
In Flight B, Lance Ngo was topped by USF's Jerod Mah in three, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Kumara Pardha Adavelly fell in three in the Flight B Round of 16, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.
In the consolation quarters, Ngo swept Sonoma State's Logan Liddell, 6-1, 6-1 and Adavelly saw Eli Whittle of UC Davis come back for a 3-6, 7-6, 10-8 win in Flight B. In Flight A's consolation quarterfinals, Oliveira bested Jesse Ross of UC Davis, 7-5, 6-2.
In doubles. Adavelly and Verbeek defeated Mile Cilic and Andrew Poustie of Nevada, 6-3 in the Flight A quarters. They will face Youssef Hassan and Alex Vakouftsis of Fresno State in the semifinals on Saturday.
In Flight B, Lance Ngo and Oliveira defeated Logan Liddell and Blane Mengert, 6-4 in the Round of 16 and then topped Brian Lee and Alex Wagner of Saint Mary's, 6-1 to advance to Saturday's semifinals, where they will meet Nevada's Jonathan Aremon and Aaron Breust.
