Box Score Ann Arbor, Mich. - The Pacific Tigers fell to the No. 16 Michigan Wolverines Friday night, losing 5-0 after four second half goals from the Wolverines. The loss snapped Pacific's three-game winning streak, putting their overall record at 6-5. Michigan is now 8-3 this season.
The Tigers played Michigan to a standstill for most of the first half, with each team managing to create a few chances off corners but otherwise being smothered by the defense. Ali Campos had a chance halfway through the first half, carrying the ball deep into the zone and sending a pass across the mouth of the goal. Savannah Burns also had a solid shot off of a corner, only to have it blocked by a defender before it reached the goalie.
Michigan scored just before the half with a shot off the corner. Katie Trombetta's shot zipped through traffic low and made it between Pujade's pads just before the goalie was able to snap her legs together. The assist went to Lauren Thomas.
The Wolverines added a second goal just 12 seconds into the second half to extend their lead. Lydia Sydnor tipped a through ball over Pujade as both Pujade and Sydnor dove to the turf for the goal. Shannon Scavelli sent in the pass to Sydnor and earned the assist in the process.
Pacific went back on the attack after Michigan's contentious second goal, earning another penalty corner. This time, Campos' shot went wide of the net.
Pujade put a stop to a Michigan attack with 30 minutes left in the game coming off a turnover deep within the circle. The Tigers were able to regroup and counterattack, ending the Wolverines chance.
Michigan's third goal was scored by Sina Lampe, with the assist going to Caroline Chromik. Lampe was able to beat Pujade on an odd-number rush, making it 3-0 at 44:57.
The fourth goal for the Wolverines came when Sydnor received a pass near the goal line on the run. Sydnor threaded a pass under Pujade's pads to Marleise Emrhein, who pushed it in as Pacific's defense scrambled to get back.
Morgan Malone scored Michigan's fifth goal of the night, with the assist going to Leah Cardarelli.
Next on the docket for the Tigers is a road game against Michigan State on Sunday at 9:00 am.
