Box Score Mount Pleasant, Mich. – The Pacific Tigers defeated the Central Michigan Chippewas 3-0 Thursday afternoon, running their record to 6-4 on the season. The Tigers have now won five of their last six games. In that time, Pacific has allowed just five goals against, holding the opposition to one goal or fewer in five of those games. Central Michigan is now 0-9 on the season. "I thought for the vast majority of the game we were fantastic. We moved the ball well and took chances well," said Coach Andy Smith.
Laura Pujade stopped the only shot on goal she faced in the game, coming away with her fourth shutout of the season. Pujade has also shut out UC Davis, Saint Louis, and Bryant, with two of her four shutouts coming in the last three games.
Rylee Comeau scored her first goal of the season and of her collegiate career just before the first half ended, making it 1-0 with 27 seconds left in the half. Alicia Muiños had the assist on Comeau's first career goal for Pacific. Comeau became the tenth Tiger to score a goal this season. Six players have double-digit goal totals.
Stiffling pressure from the Tigers created a multitude of chances as the second half began. A series of penalty corners led to another Pacific goal, punctuating the constant attack. Savannah Burns scored her fifth goal of the season to make it 2-0 at 38:32. The assists went to Emma Leach, who sent the ball in, and Hannah Tvergyak, who stopped for Burns.
Pacific's success from penalty corners continued with their third goal of the game, coming at 41:26. Leach once again sent the ball in, with Malia Robertson stopping it for Ali Campos. Campos' shot was redirected by Leach, who scored the first goal of her career at Pacific. "Malia had an outstanding game," said Smith, citing the play as part of Robertson's strong second half.
Several Tigers had big days, with Leach's goal and assist giving her four points this season and the first multi-point game of her collegiate career. Burns extended her team lead in goals to five, giving her 13 points. The Tigers ended the game with 17 shots, 10 of which were on goal. Pacific also allowed just one shot on goal and two total shots the entire game.
The Tigers will take on the Michigan Wolverines tomorrow at 4:00 pm. After that, Pacific will finish the road trip with a game against the Michigan State Spartans on Sunday at 9:00 am.
