Stockton, Calif. - Continuing his haul in preseason accolades, junior Gio Brusa was tabbed a third-team All-American by Perfect Game heading into the 2015 season. Brusa already was named the top position prospect in the Cape Cod League over the summer and was named a Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball in December. He was the lone WCC player to earn the distinction by Perfect Game.
Expectations are high for the junior right-fielder after a stellar showing in the Cape Cod League last summer while playing for the Brewster Whitecaps. While playing for Brewster, Brusa was named the No. 4 overall prospect in the Cape. He garnered all-star recognition for his play as he finished the summer hitting .322 with 20 RBI and six home runs. FanGraphs named him the No. 34 overall draft prospect in the country at the end of the summer.
In 2014, Brusa, coming off a shoulder injury that zapped his power and production early in the season, finished the season batting .257 with 22 extra-base hits that included 17 doubles and three home runs. The switch-hitting outfielder led the team with 40 RBI while scoring 30 runs.
The Tigers begin their 2015 quest for the WCC title on Feb. 13 as they host Washington at Klein Family Field. WCC play begins at Saint Mary's one month later on March 13.
