BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Continuing an eight-game road trip, the Pacific baseball program goes toe-to-toe against Cal State Bakersfield on Monday at 6:30 p.m. from Hardt Field.
The Tigers (10-20, 2-7 WCC) face the Roadrunners (13-18, 5-7 BW) for the first of two meetings this season. The two programs will meet again at Klein Family Field on April 28.
Pacific is 2-3 in midweek contests this season, including a 1-0 mark on the road with that win coming at San Jose State on March 3 by a 11-5 result.
In that mid-week performance over SJSU, redshirt freshman
Liam Smith tossed a season-high 6.0 innings with four strikeouts and picked up his first win of the year in the process. The Tigers collected 11 runs on 11 hits, including a home run from redshirt sophomore
Robert Orr, who currently paces Pacific in average (.295), doubles (8), home runs (5) and slugging percentage (.514).
In the last conference series against Saint Mary's, junior
Levi Sotomayor represented as an impact bat in the first two games, combining for 5-for-8 that featured his first home run of his Pacific career.
Cal State Bakersfield is 2-4 in midweek games this year, including most recently a 17-14 win last Monday at UNLV. The Roadrunners enter the contest having lost two of their last three at home to Utah Valley. Kanoa Morisaki leads CSUB in average with a .345 clip, while Elgin Bennett is the home run leader with five big flies.
The Tigers and the Roadrunners have been nearly split (nine wins, 11 losses) in the series history since 2009. In the last road meeting at Hardt Field, Pacific won 11-10, utilizing a key six-run sixth inning to oust their opponent. Senior
Jake Tandy went 2-for-5 in that contest with a pair of runs. Graduate student
Ethan Shaver picked up the save in the effort.
