MORAGA, Calif. – The Pacific baseball program took early leads, but ultimately could not hold on to them, resulting in 11-4 and 6-4 decisions against Saint Mary's at Louis Guisto Field.
The first game of the series was finished today due to a stadium lights malfunction, resulting in games one and two being completed on Friday.
Game 1
The Tigers (10-18, 2-5 WCC) struck first, but the Gaels (15-13, 3-4 WCC) utilized a five-run spot in response to take control of game one of the West Coast Conference series by a 11-4 margin.
Junior
Levi Sotomayor blasted his first home run of the his Div. I career, showcasing a highlight in the series opener for Pacific.
Senior
Grant MacArthur continued to swing a hot bat in WCC play, racking up a couple more hit and RBIs. Redshirt sophomore
JT Shank set the table well, collecting another multi-hit performance from the two hole with a pair of runs.
Senior
Adan Perez (0-2) made his second consecutive Friday night start of conference play, going 5.0 innings with three strikeouts. The five innings mark his longest outing of the season.
John Damozonio was sharp for the Gaels, pitching 7.0 innings with 11 strikeouts.
After the Tigers opened the scoring in the top of the first to go up 1-0 on MacArthur's RBI single, the Gaels put up a five-run spot to jump ahead, 5-1.
Pacific chipped away, scoring one in each of the next two frames, including Sotomayor's leadoff home run to begin the second inning.
Saint Mary's tacked on more runs in the later stages of the game, eventually leading to the 11-4 final score.
Game 2
Game two saw Pacific go up 2-0 after three innings, but Saint Mary's countered with six straight runs, leading to a 6-4 final in the later afternoon portion of the day.
Sotomayor went 3-for-5 with an RBI double during an early two-run rally. Graduate student
Brendan O'Sullivan earned three RBIs, marking the most he's driven in a single game this year.
Redshirt junior
Zach Todd (1-2) tossed a quality start, going 6.0 innings and allowing three runs with five strikeouts. Todd is now up to 45 strikeouts on the season, which paces the Tigers.
Pacific had an opportunity to tie it up in the top of the ninth inning after O'Sullivan's two-RBI double sent Sotomayor up as the game's tying run representative at the plate, but struck out to end the ball game.
The Tigers and the Gaels will clash in game three of the series tomorrow with a first pitch slated for 1 p.m. from Louis Guisto Field.
