Box Score Seattle, Wash. - Behind a near record-setting offensive performance, the Tigers dominated the day against Lafayette to take home an easy sweep in their final match at the Redhawk Invitational. In nearly a flawless performance, the Tigers hit .514 (44-6-74) to finish the tournament 2-1 and move to 4-2 on the year.
Set scores for the match were: 25-9, 25-8, 25-16.
In an almost perfect day at the net, the Tigers' offense overwhelmed the Leopards throughout the match as Pacific just missed setting a program hitting record by one error. Overall, the Tigers were dominant on both sides as Pacific held the Leopards to just -.026 hitting.
Running out to a fast lead and never looking back, the Tigers scored eight of the first 10 points while giving up just one kill to the Leopards early on. Taking advantage of Lafayette on the pins, the Tigers' outsides, sophomore Lexi Elman and junior Anne-Sophie Bauer, had a field day offensively as the two accounted for 10 kills on 13 swings. The Tigers just missed tying their single-set scoring record set last season as Pacific outhit the Leopards .591 to -.143 in the opening set led by Elman's 7-for-9 performance.
After just missing their record for points given up in a set, the Tigers went back to work and matched their record of 25-8 as the attack made just one mistake (17-1-22) and hit .727 in the second set. Continuing the onslaught, the Tigers rolled off 11-straight points to kick start the second frame as they grabbed a 14-2 lead before the Leopards could respond. Again, it was Elman that led the attack as she went 5-for-5 in the front row before rotating to the back to finish the set where she added two more kills on two more swings.
With the match in hand, the Tigers went to their bench in the third set and barely missed a beat as the youth picked up were the vets left off. Winning nine of the first 10 points, the Tigers saw freshmen Maycie LaBass and Janie Feldsher get things rolling as LaBass grabbed a pair of kills while Feldsher tallied her first career collegiate kill. Additionally, freshman Keri Gee saw her first action of the season as a serving sub and promptly served up her first collegiate ace to help the Tigers' cause. The big early lead would suffice as the Tigers finished off the Leopards with relative ease to close out the match despite Lafayette hitting in the positive for the first time in the match.
Elman would finish with a match-best 17 kills on a career-high .536 hitting as she was perfect in the match until the third set when she made her first hitting error on her 20th swing. She added three aces and two blocks to finish the match with 21.0 points, two more than Lafayette produced as a team. Sophomore Alicja Wilk, in two sets, finished perfect at the net with six kills in six attacks while adding a block while her counterpart, senior Gillian Howard added three kills and three blocks. Bauer, completed the day with six kills in two sets of action while junior Kat Schulz added five kills.
