PORTLAND, Ore. – The Pacific volleyball program put up three hard fought sets against Portland on Thursday night from the Chiles Center, but ultimately came out on the wrong side of each set (20-25, 22-25, 25-27) to drop the first match of WCC play.
Redshirt Freshman
Mila Stojakovic continued where she left off from the previous weekend, totaling the second most attacks on the team and netting six more kills from those 25 opportunities. Stojakovic was also an asset to the Tigers (6-6, 0-1 WCC) from the back row, tying for the second most digs on Pacific with seven. She also added a service ace.
Offensively her performance would be eclipsed only by freshman
Mazi Smith's career high eight kills and graduate
Olivia Keller's team leading ten. Smith eight kills were the result of her largest workload to date, getting 22 total attacks and ended with her second most efficient performance (.273 hitting percentage). The freshman was also active in the middle, adding three more block assists to her season total, she sits currently at 16 and third on the team.
One of the two Smith sits behind in the category led the team in total blocks for the contest, that being graduate
Valentina Varani and her five total blocks. The middle blocker has registered at least four total blocks in four of her last five outings and has blocked at least five balls in seven of Pacific's twelve matches this season.
Varani also returned to form from the service line, snapping her three-match spell without a service ace and added three to lead the Tigers in the category.
Sophomore
Alessia Couchond and senior
Jayhlin Swain reached double figures in assists and digs respectively to lead the Tigers in their respective categories. Couchond's 16 assists extends her streak of ten or more assists in every match this season while Swain's 14 digs leave her just 15 away from the career 100th dig.
On Saturday, the team finishes off its swing in Oregon by taking on the Beavers of Oregon State at 1 p.m. Following Saturday's match, Pacific returns home to Stockton for a string of seven straight played at the Alex G. Spanos Center. Saturday's match with the Beavers will be broadcast on ESPN+.
