First Day Of Play Complete For The Tigers At The Bandon Dunes Championships

Bandon, Ore. - Finishing the first day of play at the Bandon Dunes Championships, the Pacific golf team completed the first 18 holes of action in 14th place on Sunday, Mar. 9. The Tigers and the field battled the elements throughout the day as wet weather made the Pacific Dunes Course at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort tough to deal. For the day, Pacific shot +17 as the field fell behind Missouri which went three-under in the opening round.

Individually, the Tigers were led by sophomore SeungJae Maeng who finished the first round at +1. Firing a 72 on the par-71, 6,633 yard course, Maeng played steadily throughout his first 18 holes of action to put himself inside the tournament's top 20 individuals. Over the round, Maeng posted 13 pars to go along with three bogeys and a pair of birdies. At +1, Maeng sits just five strokes back of the tournament's leaders, a trio of golfers who went four-under on Sunday's round.

Behind Maeng, junior Byron Meth had an up-and-down day as the third-year Tiger ended just one stroke back of Maeng at +2. On the 18 holes of play, Meth tallied five bogeys while adding in a trio of birdies.

The Tigers are back in action on Monday, Mar. 10 as round two at the Bandon Dunes Championships commences at 8:30 am.
