Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific women's water polo team received a commitment Friday from Kyra Christmas head coach James Graham announced.
"We are extremely excited about Kyra joining our water polo program," Graham said. "She is going to play a huge part in putting Pacific women's water polo on the national map. She has a great work ethic, tremendous enthusiasm and I believe she can be one of the best lefties in NCAA."
Christmas, a native of High River, Alberta, Canada, played for U-19 Team Canada at the Pan-American games in 2014, helping the squad to a third-place finish and Commonwealth Championships, where the team took one second. She was the top scorer at the Pre-Worlds Hungary Tournament, as Canada won the event. At the Youth World's, she helped the U-18 Team to a second place finish.
She also has been invited to train with the Water Polo Canada Senior National Team in Hungary in December.
Last year, she was an All-Star at the WPC Club Nationals for her Calgary Renegades Club team at the U-16, U-18 and U-22 levels. Christmas was also named to the U-22 World's Canadian Team, but was forced to withdraw.
In 2012, she earned a spot on the Water Polo Canada U-16 National Summer team, and played at the U-18 Worlds for Team Canada in Perth, Australia.
Christmas will join Pacific from National Sports School in Calgary, a high school created to support student-athletes with Olympic potential, where her family moved to aid her competitive endeavors. Prior to joining National Sports School, Christmas attended Highwood High School for grades 9 and 10, and was an athlete in volleyball, cross country, track, flag football and basketball as well.
She will join the Tigers for the 2015-16 season.
