Stockton, Calif. - Swimming their first meet of the new season, the Pacific women took on UC Davis at Chris Kjeldsen Pool in an unscored dual meet on Saturday, Oct. 18. Using the day to work on specific events, the two teams swam 11 different events including five relay events.
"We swam very very well today and I am extremely proud of that fact," said head coach Peter Richardson. "You can see how well we did in the results and I think we have a really good shot of winning some relays down at the conference championships later this year. I'm very happy with our freshman who did a really good job in their first meet. Kenna Ramey winning the 100 Free and the team winning the 200 and 800 Free Relays was impressive. It was an overall good meet for us."
The Tigers took the first event of the day in the 200 Free Relay as the team of junior MaryElla Randall, sophomore Vaiva Gimbutyte, senior Hayley Shillington, and freshman Kenna Ramsey posted a time of 1:37.50.
The four returned to the pool three events later as individuals in the 100 free where Ramsey out touched her veteran teammates for her first individual victory of her career. Posting a time of 52.21, she came up just ahead of Gimbutyte who finished at 53.05 to post the top two times.
Getting into the fun a few events later, sophomore standout Margaux Verger Gourson grabbed her first win of the year in the 500 Free with a time of 4:58.34, nearly :10 seconds faster than Shillington who finished second.
Winning their first non-freestyle event moments later, the Tigers took the 200 Back thanks to junior Haley Preston. Preston came in :04 seconds faster than her competition as she touched the wall at 2:05.01.
They would end the day with another relay win in the freestyle as Verger Gourson, Shillington, junior Cristina Mardones, and Preston won the 800 Relay. The Tigers' top team came in at 7:43.98, :12 seconds faster than Davis' top team.
The Tigers are back in the water on Saturday, Oct. 24 when the men and the women take part in a four-team dual meet at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. The Tigers host Nevada, Simon Fraser, and Fresno Pacific beginning at 5:00 pm.
