Tigers Match Second Round Total To Finish In 8th At The Arizona Intercollegiate

Tucson, Calif. - Playing the final 18 holes of the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, Ariz., the Pacific golf team matched its production in the second round to post a +12, 296 in round three and finish in a tie for eighth place overall in the 14-team tournament. The Tigers finished even with James Madison and UTEP to finish just outside of the top half of the tournament at the Sewailo Golf Club.

Individually, juniors Byron Meth and Drew Bender topped the standings for the Tigers as the duo completed the tournament knotted at +5 and in a tie for 12th overall, one shot back of a top-10 finish. For the two upperclassmen, the day played out in nearly identical fashion as each tallied three bogies and two birdies for a +1, 72.

Despite having Meth and Bender at the top for the tournament it was sophomore transfer Matt Lee who led the day as the first year Tiger posted an even-par, 71, to match his best 18-hole score of the year. Lee continually improved throughout the tournament and shook off a rough start to his final round to post his 71 as he tallied three birdies on 17, 1, and 2, to erase an opening three-over through the first three holes of play on the day. For the tournament, Lee finished in a tie for 35th at +11.

The Tigers will be back on the course on Feb. 10 when they start play at the Farms Collegiate Invitational in San Diego, Calif.
