Long Beach, Calif. – Pacific Golf grabbed a runner-up finish at the Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic with a 1-over finish on February 26. The Tigers finished just three strokes back of host Long Beach State at Virginia Country Club. As a team, the Tigers had sophomore Eric Sugimoto, senior Alex Edfort and sophomore Byron Meth finish in the top five on the individual leaderboard.
The Tigers held the 36-hole lead, but shot a 5-over 285 in the final round to surrender the advantage to the 49ers. For the day Sugimoto led the way with a two-under 68, which propelled him to a second place tie on the individual leaderboard. Sugiomoto birdied three of his final four holes, and ended the round with a team-best six birdies.
Edfort placed fourth with a one-under 209 for the tournament. He was one of only four players in the field to finish under par. Meth finished right behind his teammate with a 210, even par finish.
SeungJae Maeng shot a one-over 71 to finish +5 for the tournament, while Austin Weatherholt rounded out the classic with a 234.
The Tigers will hit the road again next week for the Fresno Lexus Classic at Fort Washington Country Club in Fresno, Calif. The first round begins on March 4.
