Pacific Opens Invitational In 10th Place

Stockton, Calif. - Hosting its annual Stockton Convention and Visitor's Bureau (SCVB) Pacific Invitational at Stockton Golf & Country Club, the Pacific men's golf team finished an up-and-down first day of action in 10th place overall on Thursday, Oct. 31. Overall, the Tigers ended the opening round at 11-over par after shooting a 295 as a team. Leading the tournament after day one was BYU, which shot a -7, 277 to finish as the lone team under-par after the first round of action.

Leading the way for the Tigers in the first round of action was junior Eric Sugimoto who posted a +1, 72. Sugimoto started off his round with a pair of birdies over his first nine holes of play, but a string of bogies midway through his second half of play dropped the third-year golfer down the leaderboard. Sugimoto got a first hand look at the tournament's leader in the clubhouse as he was partnered with BYU's Joe Parkinson in round one. Parkinson dominated the field over the first 18-holes of play with a -6, 65 to take a three shot lead into the second day of play. Parkinson was able to jump out to a quick lead in the tournament as he tallied five birdies and just one bogey over his first nine holes of action before adding two more birdies to close out his opening round.

Pacific and the rest of the field will look to chase down the Cougars on day two of the SCVB Pacific Invitational as the teams tee-off beginning at 8:00 am on Friday, Nov. 1. The Tigers are part of the late groups going off the tee as they begin action at 8:50 am from the first tee.
