Box Score Stockton, Calif. – The Pacific women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 14 Santa Clara on Sunday, October 20 at Knoles Soccer Field. The Tigers dropped to 2-9-3 overall, 1-2-1 in West Coast Conference action. Santa Clara improved to 10-3-1, 4-0-0 in WCC play.
"We appreciate how strong of a team Santa Clara, but felt we were able to adjust and play a very strong second half," said Head Coach Keith Coleman. "We had chances to score and played hard all the way to the end."
Each team had a few chances in the first 15 minutes, but the Broncos took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Dani Weatherholt at 15:07. The Broncos made it 2-0 with a goal by Sofia Huerta at 26:46. The Tigers were outshot 10-5 in the first half, though senior Maricela Padilla and freshman Alex Hussar each had scoring opportunities.
Padilla had a good opportunity at 56:16 for the Tigers, but goalkeeper Andi Tostanoski made the save. Minutes later Pacific had a pair of corner kicks, but were unable to put it in the net. At 64:17, senior Brittni Beeman had an opening on the side, but her shot was stopped. Padilla hit the crossbar at 85:54, missing the Tigers' first goal by inches.
The Tigers were outshot 15-14 in the game, but held a 9-5 advantage in the second half. Pacific had five corner kicks to four for Santa Clara, including a 5-3 edge in the second half.
The Tigers are next in action at Pepperdine on Friday, October 25 at 3:00 p.m.
