Rosa Makes History as Tigers Battle Saint Mary's

STOCKTON, Calif. – Kaya Rosa etched her name into the University of the Pacific women's soccer record books Wednesday evening, scoring her ninth goal of the 2026 season as the Tigers fell to Saint Mary's, 2-1, at Knoles Field.

Rosa's historic goal came in the 19th minute off an assist from Sadie Fletcher, marking the most goals scored by a Pacific women's soccer player in a single season since the program rejoined the West Coast Conference in 2013. The Newark, California native surpassed Jaida Nyby's previous mark of eight goals, established during the 2023 campaign.

The Tigers (1-13-2, 0-5-2 WCC) celebrated the milestone, highlighting Rosa's remarkable offensive production and leadership throughout her senior campaign.

Rosa's ninth goal increased her season point total to 18, continuing a breakthrough year in which she has established herself among the conference's most productive attackers.

Saint Mary's (10-2-5, 4-2-1 WCC) opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Ashlyn Vaughn registered her ninth goal of the season to give the Gaels an early 1-0 advantage.

Pacific responded less than seven minutes later when Fletcher connected with Rosa off a fortunate bounce for the equalizer at 18:26, bringing the Tigers level at 1-1 and establishing the historic milestone.

Freshman goalkeeper Ava Wells preserved the deadlock late in the opening half, stopping Molly Silva's penalty kick in the 42nd minute. Wells finished the evening with four saves, continuing her strong freshman campaign between the posts.

Both teams entered halftime tied at one goal apiece, with Pacific generating five shots during the opening 45 minutes.

Saint Mary's regained the advantage in the 53rd minute when Brianna Jurasek scored her fourth goal of the season.

Despite trailing, Pacific continued creating offensive opportunities throughout the second half.

Sophomore Janelli Villagran helped generate pressure with three shot attempts, while Fletcher registered a shot on goal in the 82nd minute that was stopped by Saint Mary's goalkeeper Kate Plachy.

The Tigers finished with ten shots, including five in each half, while the Gaels recorded 12 attempts. Pacific's defensive effort was anchored by freshmen Nora Cullen and Brooklyn Cornish, who each played the full 90 minutes.

Pacific returns to action Saturday, traveling to Denver for a 2 p.m. contest at University of Denver Soccer Stadium. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
