Verbeek And Diaz Have Solid First Day At Battle In The Bay Classic

San Francisco, Calif. – The Pacific men's tennis team was in action in the first day of the Battle in the Bay Classic on Friday, October 11 at the California Tennis Club. Sophomore Sem Verbeek and freshman Miguel Diaz were the only Tigers in action.

Verbeek and Diaz defeated the No. 3 seeded team of Filip Bergevi and Campbell Johnson of Cal. The Tigers prevailed with a score of 8-6.

In singles action, Diaz opened up play with a 6-0, 5-7, 7-5 victory over Andrew Raphaelson of San Diego. He then dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to No. 3 seed John Lamble of Santa Clara. Verbeek had a first round bye, then defeated Garrett Patton of Boise State 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (5).

"It was a strong showing from the get go today in doubles and into our singles," said Head Coach Ryan Redondo. "The Tigers fought their tails off today. Tomorrow is another opportunity to get better and improve."

Verbeek def. Garrett Patton (Boise state) 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (5)

No. 3 seed John Lamble (Santa Clara) def. Diaz 6-0, 6-0.
