Baseball Wraps 2012 With Homestand Against Northridge

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific baseball team wraps up the 2012 season with a three-game home stand against Cal State Northridge, starting Friday at 6 p.m. Saturday's game two will be a 1 p.m. start before Sunday's, 1 p.m. game three. The Tigers' will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday, prior to the first pitch of the season finale.

A number of Tigers have amped up their games, as they wind down the Pacific careers. Seniors Brett Christopher and Josh Simms are among the Tiger hitters sprinting to the finish line.

Simms went 6-for-13 in the Long Beach series to run his hit streak to seven games. He turned in a four-hit day last Saturday and is hitting .438 in his last eight games with four doubles, a home run, and seven RBI.

Christopher is hitting .379 (11-for-29) in his last seven games, with a triple and a home run. He posted five consecutive games with multiple hits before being held hitless at LBSU in game two. In the Tigers series against UC Riverside series, Christopher had a .923 slugging percentage with 12 total bases in 13 at bats.

Simms and Christopher will be among the nine seniors honored Sunday. joining RHP Thomas Berolzheimer, INF Garrett Borba, OF/DH Daniel Johnston, RHP Chris Larsen, RHP John Prato Matthews, OF Allen Riley, LHP Joe Spizzirri and RHP Jared Wagner. Cermonies will take place at approximately 12:40 pm, prior to the 1 p.m. first pitch.

On Friday, the series opens with freshmen RHP Michael Benson throwing in game one for Pacific. Benson has a 3.40 ERA in 13 starts, but a 2-9 record in 80.1 innings pitched. He's struck out 41 against 24 walks on the year. He'll be opposed by Northridge starter RHP Alex Muren. Muren, a 6-3 junior, is 5-7 on the season with a 5.14 ERA. In 84 innings he has struck out 43 batters while walking 26.

Saturday, it's freshman RHP Mike Hager taking the mount for Pacific. The 6-5 righty has a 5-5 record on the year with a 4.86 ERA. He's struck out 31 against just 13 walks this season (three of which were intentional). Hager posted the win last Saturday at Long Beach, tossing eight innings while allowing two earned on seven hits.

The Matadors (23-27 overall, 10-11 Big West) will counter with LHP Jerry Keel. The 6-6 freshman is 6-2 on the year with a 2.16 ERA in 83.1 innings pitched.

Sunday's finale will feature the Tiger senior pitchers for Pacific (13-40, 3-18 Big West), while Northridge has yet to decide on a starter.
