Tigers Drop Decision 3-1 To Long Beach State

Stockton, Calif. – Pacific Men's Volleyball returned to the court for a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) match on April 7 in the Alex G. Spanos Center against Long Beach State. The Tigers took game two, but fell in four sets to the 49ers (29-27, 23-25, 25-17, 25-15). The loss dropped No. 13 Pacific to 7-19 (4-16 MPSF) and improved No. 8 Long Beach State to 14-13 (9-11 MPSF).

Leading the Tigers on the night was junior outside hitter Taylor Hughes with 13 kills. Sophomore libero Javier Caceres had season-high 19 digs for Pacific.

The Tigers fell in a tough 29-27 opening set loss to the 49ers despite five kills from Hughes. Junior Christian Ahlin added three kills on six swings for the Tigers and senior Dylan Walker collected a pair of kills. Walker would finish the night with six kills. On the opposite side of the pins, senior Sean Daley, Hughes and Ahlin each added two total blocks. Junior setter Patrick Tunnell finished the game with 12 assists, while Caceres recorded five digs.

Leading the Tigers to a 25-23 game two victory was Hughes with six kills. Pacific never trailed after taking a 7-6 lead early in the frame and would control most of the set. In the frame, Tunnell added another 12 assists, while junior Matthew Houlihan led the Orange and Black with five digs.

Pacific would fall behind early in the third set after the 49ers opened the game on a 5-1 run and could not overcome the deficit. The Orange and Black received four kills on five swings from Daley, while Ahlin added another two kills on six swings.

The deciding set was controlled by Long Beach State as Pacific would fall 25-15. Daley and Gornik added three and two kills, respectively, in the frame. Daley finished the contest with nine kills. Caceres tallied six digs, while Tunnell added seven assists. 

Leading the 49ers on the night was Taylor and Trevor Crabb with 16 kills each. Setter Connor Olbright tallied 57 assists for the night. 

The Tigers are off until next weekend when they close out the season with a pair of MPSF matches against UCLA and UC Santa Barbara in the Alex G. Spanos Center on April 13 and 14.
