Stanford, Calif. – Pacific men's volleyball took on the Stanford Cardinal in a mid-week Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) match on Tuesday, April 3. The Tigers fell on the road in three sets (25-15, 25-19, 25-18). The loss dropped No. 13 Pacific to 7-17 (4-14 MPSF), while the win improved No. 5 Stanford to 16-6 (13-5 MPSF).

Leading the Tigers on the night was senior outside hitter Florian Gornik with 16 kills, while senior outside hitter Taylor Hughes slammed 11 kills. 

The Tigers and Cardinal traded points to a seven-all tie to start the match, but Stanford would use a 5-2 run to gain control of the first set. Pacific received three kills from Hughes, but fall in the game 25-15. Junior setter Patrick Tunnell added nine assists in the frame, while sophomore libero Javier Caceres recorded five digs. On the other side of the pins senior Sean Daley and Hughes each tallied two blocks in the opening set. 

Pacific and Stanford would tie the score 17 times in the second set, but the Cardinal used a 6-0 run with the score knotted at 19 to take the game. Leading the Orange and Black in the frame was Gornik with nine kills. Tunnell's 14 assists helped the Tiger attackers, the setter finished the match with 31 total assists. 

The Cardinal handled the final frame, as they would take the set 25-18. Gornik added another four kills, while Hughes and Daley would tally two blocks each in the set.

Other leaders for the Tigers included Caceres, who would end the match with nine total digs. Junior Christian Ahlin added four kills with one error on seven swings to hit .429 in the match. 

Leading the Cardinal on the night was Brad Lawson and Brian Cook, who finished the match with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. 

The Tigers will next prepare to welcome Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State to the Alex G. Spanos Center for a pair of MPSF matches on April 6 and 7, both matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
