Box Score Provo, Utah – The Pacific Tigers men's volleyball team finished its two-game set with BYU in a 3-0 loss to the Cougars (25-21, 25-20, 26-24). Senior Sean Daley recorded four blocks in the match, his first of the night moved him into sole possession of first place in the Tigers record book for total blocks. He finished the match with 447 blocks in his career.
Leading the Tigers on the night was senior Florian Gornik and junior Taylor Hughes with 16 and 12 kills, respectively. Gornik hit .296 in the match, while Hughes finished the contest with an attack percentage of .259.
Pacific fell in the first game 25-21 despite five kills off the right arm of Gornik. He finished the frame hitting .375 and added a block for the Tigers. Junior setter Patrick Tunnell added 11 assists in the set to aid a pair of kills from Hughes, Daley and senior Ryan Spencer.
The second set saw another five kills from Gornik, but the Tigers fell 25-20. The Schwechat, Austria native was five for six on the attack to hit .667. Tunnell had 13 assists in the second frame. Hughes collected three kills and five digs for the Tigers, while Daley added two kills on five attacks.
The third set, Hughes stepped up to collect a team-high seven kills, he hit .385 in the frame. Tunnell added a night-high 14 assists in the final frame, as the Cougars barely edged the Tigers 26-24. The valiant effort from the Tigers was due in part to Gornik's six kills. Sophomore libero Javier Caceres would also add four digs in the frame.
Leading the Cougars on the night was Taylor Sander with 15 kills and Robb Stowell who collected 11 kills.
Pacific has the next week off, but returns to the Alex G. Spanos Center for a non-conference match with UC Santa Cruz on March 23.
