Pacific Kicks Off Spring Tournament Play With A Fourth Place Finish

Westlake Village, Calif. - Playing in conditions slightly more suitable for golf than the first day of action at the North Ranch Intercollegiate, the Pacific golf team completed its final 18 holes of the tournament with a fourth place finish on Tuesday, February 28.  The Tigers completed the two-day tournament at +59, finishing ahead of 10 other teams from around the country while finding themselves behind a group of three that seperated themselves from the rest of the pack.  At the top of the leaderboard, San Diego State took home the team tournament title by shooting +24, five strokes better than San Diego who finished second.

Individually, the Tigers were led by freshman Eric Sugimoto who finished his tournament in a tie for No. 16 on the individual list at +11.  Sugimoto posted Pacific's top score of the day at the North Ranch Country Club as he came into the clubhouse four-over par with a 74.  Finishing just behind the freshman was junior Alex Edfort who posted a +6 on day three to fall into a tie for 18th as he posted a +12 for his tournament.

The individual title was taken home by the Aztec as well as Matt Hoffenberg outlasted a pair of his teammates for the championship with a +2 for the tournament.  Alex Kang and J.J. Spaun took home second and third place for San Diego State as the Aztec swept the medals at the tournament.
