Moraga, Calif.-Three of the Pacific Tigers got off to a successful start winning their first round matches at the ITA Northwest Regionals in Moraga. Sophomore Denis Stolyarov defeated his Eastern Washington opponent confidently in straight sets, similarly senior Alex Golding, the tournaments 17th seed, dominated against his Eastern Washington opponent. Lastly, freshman Trevor James posted his first shut-out of the season against Sacramento State product Tom Miller.
In the Round of 64, Alex Golding posted an impressive three set victory against Sean Kolar against Sacramento State in which Golding came back after having dropped the first set and picked up the last two to claim the win with a final score of 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.
"Today was a great day for senior Alex Golding as he won his first two rounds and moves into the round of 32. Trevor James and Denis Stolyarov also won their first rounds convincingly and played tough second round opponents. The rest of the team under performed and lost opportunities to keep the progress from this fall; lessons learned. Doubles start early tomorrow and I will look for a big start from those that suffered losses today."
