San Francisco, Calif.-The second day at the Battle of the Bay Classic, Tigers were victorious. In the doubles events, Pacific duo senior Alex Golding and sophomore Alex Golding defeated the USF duo with a confident match score of 8-3.
In the singles events, freshman
Sem Verbeek had a show stopping match. In the round of 16, Verbeek faced Boise State Scott Sears and defeated the Boise native in three sets after having dropped the first set and going on to post a final match score of 1-6, 7-5, 6-3.
At the conclusion of the day, Director of Tennis and Head Men's Tennis Coach,
Ryan Redondo stated, "This was a great stepping stone for the Pacific Tigers Tennis Program. To have freshman
Sem Verbeek make the Quarter Finals of this prestigious tournament and beat players from Pepperdine and Boise State is great to see. Accordingly,
Alex Golding and
Alex Hamilton had two match points versus number 1 seed and number 1 team in the country USC in the semi finals after defeating the number 4 seed in the quarter finals. On both match points, USC simply came up with huge saves."
"This tournament will show us that we can compete with anyone we face. When we get opportunities such as these we need to capitalize and the these four guys performed professionally and with great determination. We will need to take this and bring these experiences back to the rest of the team and put them to use in the ITA Northwest Regionals next week."
