Tigers Take The Silver At The Big West Championships

May 3, 2011

Mission Viejo, Calif. -

Finishing their 2010-11 regular season at the Big West Championships, the Pacific golf team placed second in the conference after finishing the two day event at +24, 888. The Tigers picked up their third straight runner-up finish at the championships as UC Davis took the Big West title with a +7, 871.

Looking to make a move in the final 18 holes of the tournament, the Tigers faced a tough task in their attempt to catch the Aggies. With the course playing difficult and the length at its toughest throughout the three rounds, the Tigers were led by senior Patrick Kucich who posted Pacific's lowest round of the day, a +1, 73. Combined with his one-over showing the day prior, Kucich completed his 2011 Championship at +4, 220 to finish tied for fourth overall in the individual standings. Austin Graham of UC Davis took the individual title at the tournament after shooting a -6, 210 over his three rounds. He was one of just two golfers to finish under par at the tournament.

Finishing behind Kucich was sophomore Alex Edfort who took home another top-10 finish after posting a +6, 222 for his two day tournament. A tumultuous final few holes dropped the sophomore down to seventh place in the individual standings as he bookended an eagle on the 496 yard, par-5, 17th with a pair of double-bogies.  Senior Alex Johnson ended his tournament tied with Edfort in the individual standings after shooting a +4, 76 on the final day of play.

The Tigers will await word on their postseason future as Pacific will look for an at large bid into the NCAA tournament when the field is selected on May 9.
