Tigers Three Strokes Back After The First 18 Holes Of The Big West Championships

Opening play at the 2011 Big West Championships, the Pacific golf team finished the first 18 holes of play just three strokes off the pace after firing a 291, +3. The Tigers are four strokes ahead of the third place team at the tournament while falling only behind UC Davis which shot an even-par 288 in round one.

Individually, the Tigers were led by senior Alex Johnson who was the lone Tiger to break even in the round with a 72. In an up-and-down round, Johnson posted four birdies, with two coming on both the front and back nine. His even-par round put Johnson into a tie for No. 6 overall, three strokes back of the leader. Cal Poly's Bryan Pierce holds the first round lead at -3 after shooting the lone round in the 60's with a 69.
