Indian
Wells, Calif. - The Pacific women's tennis team pulled out
a 4-3 victory over UC Santa Barbara in the quarterfinal round of
the 2011 Big West Conference Tennis Championship at the Indian
Wells Tennis Garden. The match lasted nearly five hours. The
match began at 3:00 in the afternoon and lasted until 7:55 in the
evening.
Freshman Susan Te (Davis,
Calif.) defeated UC Santa Barbara's Kiersten Meehan at the No. 5
singles spot 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-1 in a match that lasted nearly four
hours. This monumentous match clinched the win for the
Tigers, but the battle was tough and lasted roughly four
hours.
Coach Chiene
commented on Te's match stating that as Susan was finishing a
tiebreak in the first set and lost it, everyone else had already
completed their matches; and Susan was barely starting the second
set. "It was a
real gutsy performance, but she is very coachable, and she
refused to lose, she was in it to win it."
The Tigers
advance to the semifinal round and will face Long Beach State on
Saturday, April 30 at 3:00 in the afternoon. This is the
first time the Tigers will have competed in the semifinals since
2005.
