PORTLAND, Ore. – The Pacific women's tennis team began the week with a 4-0 road loss to Portland on Thursday morning, dropping the team to 1-3 in conference play.
Pacific (5-12, 1-3 WCC) got off to a good start in the doubles portion with a convincing win on court three from junior
Rayna Sugai and sophomore
Maggie Hoe – their first win together this season. However, after that win the Tigers were unable to close out courts one or two and went into the singles half of the match in comeback position.
Due to Portland's (7-8, 2-3 WCC) limited court setup, only three singles matches could be played at a time and the Pilots were able to clinch the match in the first three finishes. Despite the losses, both juniors
Milena Maiorova and Sugai put up valiant efforts by forcing third sets on courts one and three. Graduate
Cindy Ung had begun her match for singles court four and led towards the end of the first set when play was halted.
The Tigers have an opportunity to rebound and earn a split of the weekend when the team travels to Seattle to take on the Redhawks on Saturday at 10 a.m. Live stats will be broadcast for the match.
