Tigers Come Up Just Short Of The Win Against No. 50 Santa Clara 3-4

April 10, 2011

Stockton, Calif. -

The Tigers played tough, but couldn't seal the deal coming up just short of the win with a final match score of 4-3 to No. 50 Santa Clara in their final home match of the season.  In the doubles events, the Tigers came up short only winning one of the three matches yielding the doubles point to the Gauchos.

In the singles events, senior Fernando Ristow defeated his opponent with an impressive two set score, 6-2, 6-0.  After Fernando's match, he remarked that, "Today's match was a very importan match for me. I knew it was my last home match playing for Pacific and I kept that in the back of my mind, I felt that I should do the best I can to make my last match unforgettable. In my singles match I played very well, I trusted my shots and everything was working well. I was dictating the match from the beginning and building confidence as the match progressed. I had lost to this guy before, and in comparison to last year I felt like a new person, I have evolved as a tennis player.  Coach Ryan has been great when working with me, and now I can see the results of such a hard work. I am glad that I am competing at such a high level of tennis and I am content with my performance today out on the court. the team may not have won, but I am sure all my friends did their best to make this match unforgettable for myself and fellow senior Artem Gramma."

After Fernando's match had concluded, the Tigers went on to win two more of their matches, Tomasz Krzyszkowski defeated Maxime Armengaud and Ivan Castro defeated John Lamble, both matches had a three set final score.

Once Santa Clara had been declared the winner of the match, Coach Redondo stated, "Santa Clara fought hard today and deserved the win.  They fought from the very beginning, and right to the end.  We had a lot of chances but didn't capitalize.  We fought and played some good tennis, but will have to wait for another opportunity like that to prove ourselves."
