After day one and 36 holes at the Fresno State Lexus Classic, senior Alex Johnson lead the field and paced the Pacific golf team on Monday, March 7. As a team, the Tigers sit in fourth place at +21, having shot 741 over the first two rounds of the tournament. No. 7 San Diego State leads the way on the team leaderboard as the Aztec sit at +1 for the tournament.
Shooting a tournament best -6, 66 in round 2 at the Sunnyside Golf Course in Fresno, Calif., Johnson shot up the individual leaderboard to take a two stroke lead heading into the final 18 holes of action on Tuesday, March 8. The Tucson, Ariz. native played a flawless round to end the first day of play as he tallied four birdies and one eagle to dominate the 6,950 yard course. Earlier in the day, Johnson shot a 71, -1 as he notched a pair of birdies to go along with his lone bogey of the day. Johnson holds his two stroke lead over both J.J. Spaun of San Diego State and Bryan Harris of UC Irvine.
Following behind Johnson, senior T.J. Bordeaux finished the day tied for No. 16 in the standings as he shot +3, 147, 10 strokes back of Johnson. Sophomore Alex Edfort sat two strokes back of Bordeaux at +5 and in a tie for 25th while senior Patrick Kucich finished the day at +6 and in a tie for 32nd.
Johnson will look to finish off his run at the tournament and take home the Fresno State Lexus Classic tournament title on Tuesday, March 7.
