Ball Ground, Ga. -
The Tiger men's golf team defeated No. 3 ranked Alabama in the final day of the Callaway Match-Play Championships in Ball Ground, Ga. The Pacific golf team ended its East Coast trip with an impressive 2-0-3 defeat of No. 2 seed Alabama on Tuesday, March 22. The consolation match decided 11th place at the tournament as the Tigers handed Alabama its second straight defeat at the Hawks Ridge Golf Club.
Rebounding from a tough loss to No. 8 seed Georgia the day before, the Tigers upended the No. 3 ranked team in the country behind a strong showing on the links from top to bottom. Leading the Tigers to victory over the Tide were Pacific's two younger players on the course as sophomore Alex Edfort picked up an impressive 4 & 3 win over Hunter Hamrick while junior Danny Garcia dealt Scott Strohmeyer a 1up loss.
With the two points from Edfort's and Garcia's matches, the Tigers needed to play even the rest of the way to pick up the victory. The three seniors on the course for Pacific did just that as T.J. Bordeaux, Alex Johnson and Patrick Kucich each halved their matches with their Crimson Tide opponents to give the Tigers the victory.
The victory for the Tigers moved Pacific's record to 2-2 at the match-play tournament while the Tide fell to just 1-3.
Pacific will be back on the course in regular tournament play on Monday, March 28 when play begins at the Igio Intercollegiate in Santa Barbara, Calif.
