Continuing action at the prestigious Callaway Match-Play Championship at Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground, Ga., the Pacific golf team suffered a 5-0-0 loss to the No. 8 seeded Georgia Bulldogs on Monday, March 21. The loss for the Tigers came in the second round of consolation play as Georgia and Pacific had each dropped their opening matches at the tournament before taking wins in the first round of consolation play.
Hitting the course for the third time in match-play, the Tigers suffered a sweep at the hands of the Bulldogs as they dropped all five matches on the day. For the first times at Hawks Ridge, senior T.J. Bordeaux dropped a match on the course as he fell 3 & 1 to Russell Henley. Bordeaux had come into the day 2-0 at the tournament having picked up wins in each of the Tigers' first two matches against Texas A&M and Baylor.
Behind Bordeaux, senior Patrick Kucich played the closest match for Pacific on the day as he dropped a narrow 2 & 1 decision to T.J. Mitchell. The senior had entered the second day of play 1-1 after picking up his first match-play victory in the Tigers' second match of the tournament against Baylor. Rounding out the day for the Tigers, senior Alex Johnson fell 3 and 2 to Harris English while junior Danny Garcia and sophomore Alex Edfort dropped matches 4 & 2 and 5 & 4, respectively.
The Tigers will close out play at the Callaway Match-Play Championships with a final consolation match against No. 2 seed Alabama on Tuesday, March 22. Alabama was upset in the opening round of action by No. 15 seed Eastern Tennessee State while also falling to No. 6 seed Iowa in consolation play. The consolation match between the Tigers and the Tide will decide the 11th place finisher at the event.
