Stockton, Calif. – For the first time in 2011, the Tigers walked off the field at Stagg Memorial Stadium on the wrong end of a result, as Cal Poly scored two first-half goals and held on a late charge by Pacific for a 2-1 win.

Pacific cut the deficit in half with a goal from sophomore Brittni Beeman, and put on a barrage of shots in the final half hour of the match, but Mustangs goalkeeper Brooke Gauvin made six saves to make two goals by Kacey Held hold up.

The Tigers (8-7-1 overall, 2-3-1 Big West) fell on senior day for the first time since 2006. Cal Poly improves to 9-8-1 overall, 3-4-0 in the Big West.

Pacific had chances early as the Tigers recorded six of the match's first seven shot attempts.

In the 38th minute, Poly's Jess Duller sent a corner kick into the box, where Leslie Barkmann deflected it. The ball found Held, who entered in the 29th minute, for the sophomore's first goal of the season.

In the 43rd minute, the Mustangs slotted balls through the Tigers' zone, sending the Pacific defense scrambling. A tackle sent the ball to the foot of Held, who buried a shot off the left post and into the net on one touch for her second marker of the match.

The Tigers out-shot Cal Poly 8-7 in the first half, but found themselves down 2-0 at intermission.

In the second half, the Tigers pushed forward and had a pair of chances in the first five minutes, as junior Lauren Olvera hit the post.

Finally, in the 66th minute, the Tigers broke through as senior Angelica Figueroa sent a corner kick to the far post, where Beeman headed it home for her second goal of the season. The assist was Figueroa's 23rd career helper, which ranks third all-time in Tiger history and fourth in Big West history.

From there, the Tigers took six of the match's remaining eight shots, but Gauvin made saves on seniors Alex Topp and Kristina Wavomba to preserve the victory.

Pacific out-shot Cal Poly 11-4 in the second half, and 19-11 for the match.

Seniors Figueroa, Topp, Wavomba, defender Laura Hogan and midfielder Nydia Ramos played their final home matches for Pacific, finishing with a 22-9-4 record at Stagg Memorial Stadium, including 11-1-2 the last two seasons.

The Tigers have their work cut out for them in the final weekend of the season, as Pacific tries to climb into the top for of the Big West standings to earn a berth in the conference tournament. With nine total Big West matches left, Pacific will need a pair of victories and help from other results.

Pacific will face eight-place Cal State Fullerton on Friday, at 7 p.m., and wrap the regular season on Sunday at 2 p.m. at fourth-place Long Beach State.
