The first day of the USTA/ITA Division I Southwest Regional Championships in Malibu, Calif. proved to be a challenge for the Tigers. Pacific faced fierce competition, however in the doubles bracket, senior Ivan Castro and freshman Alex Hamilton managed a win against Fresno State partners David Ayoun and Reid Delaubenfels with a final pro set score of 9-7. Castro and Hamilton will move on to face UC Santa Barbara's Benjamin Rechnagel and Ziad Sultan in the round of 32.
Also, in the singles bracket, Ivan Castro dominated against Kevin Griffin of UC Riverside in straight sets, shutting him out 6-0, 6-0. Ivan went on to the next round (Round of 64) and came up short against the No. 17 seed, Hugh Clarke of Pepperdine with a final score of 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
Senior Tomasz Krzszkowski also utilized a game winning strategy today against UCLA's Alex Brigham. Krzyszkowski managed the win in three sets with a final score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
