Tigers Win 7-0 Over No. 51 UC Irvine

April 17, 2010

Stockton, Calif. - The Pacific men's tennis team used winning the doubles point as a catalyst to sweep No. 51 UC Irvine in singles play at home Saturday morning. Pacific walked away with a 7-0 victory over the Anteaters to improve to 8-10 overall this spring with a 2-2 record against Big West Conference opponents.

"The doubles win was huge," said Head Coach Matt Lucas. "We took the momentum and carried it on to play solidly the whole match through."

Sophomore Ivan Castro (Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil) opened the run by defeating Steven Henderson (6-1, 6-3) in No. 2 singles. Senior Renan Delsin (Santa Cruz da Conceicao, Brazil) kicked it into another gear at the No. 4 position by defeating Ryan Mayer 6-0, 6-0.

The Tigers play their final home match against conference rival UC Riverside on Sunday, April 18 at 10 a.m. on the Hal Nelson Tennis courts. It will be Pacific's final conference match before heading into the Big West tournament.
