Long Beach, Calif. - Pacific's men's and women's swim teams continued action at day three of the 2010 Big West Championships. The women's swim team finished the day in fourth place with 314 team points while the men finished in fourth with 309 team points.
In the first race of the morning senior Melissa McGhee (Elk Grove, Calif.) placed third in the 400 IM, posting a time of 4:26.73. Senior KC Albiston (Salt Lake City, Utah) finished fifth in the event with a time of 4:27.76. For the men, junior Nathan LeRoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.) placed seventh in the 400 IM, touching at 4:03.18. Sophomore Kevin Byers (Puyallup, Wash.) came in eighth, touching at 4:03.81.
McGhee finished second behind Jessica Schwalb in the 400 IM finals with a time of 4:21.55. Senior KC Albiston came in fourth touching the wall in 4:25.26. For the men Byers and LeRoy finished back-to-back in the finals to take the fifth (4:00.43) and sixth (4:01.99) place spots respectively.
In the 100 Fly preliminaries, senior Elena Walterman (Framingham, Mass.) finished fifth with a time of 55.99. Walterman went on to claim the number five spot in the 100 Fly finals with a time of 55.80. The Tiger men finished ninth and tenth in the 100 Fly preliminaries with freshmen Balazs Szabo (Budapest, Hungary) and Chris Weber (Valencia, Calif.) recording time of 51.15 and 51.21, respectively. Weber also placed 10th in the 100 Breast with a time of 57.50. LeRoy posted a time of 57.61 to finish 11th behind Weber.
Freshman Mallory McGowan (Colusa, Calif.) posted a time of 1:05.05 in the 100 Breast preliminaries, taking a seventh place finish. In the finals of the 100 Breast McGowan improved her time to 1:04.98 to come in sixth. Sophomore Lia Santini (Bothell, Wash.) placed 11th in the preliminaries with a time of 1:07.34 while freshman Zoe Coles (Vallejo, Calif.) swam a 1:07.59 to come in 12th place.
Placing fourth in the 100 Back preliminaries was senior Devonie Migues (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), posting a time of 56.81. In the finals, Migues recorded a time of 56.35 to come in fourth. Junior Danny Platow took 10th place in the men's 100 Back preliminaries with a time of 52.35. Junior Tyler Hannis (Santa Rosa, Calif.) swam a 52.90 to finish 12th.
In the 200 Free, junior Steven Woods (Walnut Creek, Calif.) came in 11th place with a time of 1:43.18 and touching at 1:43.76 was senior Patrick Walton (Lodi, Calif.) to finish 12th.
The women's 200 Free Relay team comprised of freshman Becca Wyant (Redmond, Wash.), McGhee, McGowan and Swalin came in fourth in the finals with a time of 1:36.62. Pacific's men's 200 Free Relay team made up of freshman Kevin Schirmer (Danville, Calif.), Woods, Szabo and Weber touched the wall 1:23.59 to come in fourth in the finals.
The Tigers conclude action at the 2010 Big West Championships on Saturday, Feb. 20 beginning with the preliminary races beginning at 10:30 a.m.
