Tigers Secure The Big West Regular Season Title With A 7-0 Win At UC Riverside

Riverside, Calif. - The Pacific men's tennis team clinched the regular season Big West title on Sunday, April 5, with a 7-0 win at UC Riverside.  The win improved the Tigers to 11-5 overall and 4-1 in the Big West while the Highlanders fell to 5-16 overall and 0-4 in the conference. The Pacific men's tennis team is now the top seed going into the Big West Tournament.

The Tigers took the doubles point, 2-1, with wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. The team of Tiger freshmen Ryan Kim (Elk Grove, Calif.) and freshmen Karl-Erik Paaro (Tallinn, Estonia) in the No. 3 slot easily defeated UC Riverside's Austin Andres and Quoc Doan, 8-1.

Three time 2009 Big West Player of the Week, Pacific senior Moritz Starke (Bamberg, Germany) had a strong No. 1 position victory against UC Riverside's Felix Macherez winning the match, 6-1, 6-1.

Pacific sophomore Artem Gramma (Krivoj Roj, Ukraine) earned a hard fought victory against the Highlanders' John Park, 6-1, 5-7, (10-8). From the No. 6 position, Kim battled the Highlanders' Michael Conroy for three long sets and came out with a victory, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (8), (10-7) to keep the Tigers' play perfect for the day.

The Tigers have completed Big West play but will return to action Saturday, April 11 when they travel to San Francisco, Calif. to take on the USF Bulls at 1:00 p.m.
