Honolulu, Hawaii - The Pacific men's volleyball team fell to No. 14 Hawaii, 3-0, on Saturday during the second of the two game match-up. With the loss the Tigers dropped to 3-26 overall and 0-20 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). The Warriors improved to 8-17 on the season and 5-15 in the MPSF.
The set scores for the match were: 30-20, 31-29 and 30-28.
In the first set, the Tigers were outhit -.167 to .273. With Pacific leading 7-5, the Warriors scored five consecutive points to make the score 10-7. Later in the set, with Hawaii having a 27-18 lead, a kill from junior Clay Ostrander (Wheaton, Ill.) and a block by freshman Nicolaas Schenk (Kamuela, Hawaii) and freshman Sean Daley (Moorpark, Calif.) marked the last points of the set for the Tigers, as the Warriors would take the set, 30-20.
During the second set there was 20 tie scores and four lead changes. With the Pacific down 4-1, three kills from three different Tigers, tied the score at 4-4. Junior Kevin Pratte (Hemet, Calif.), junior Jason Borchin (Roseville, Calif.), and senior Joe Forbes (Westport, Conn.) each recorded a kill during this three point rally. Later with the Tigers trailing 21-19, a kill from Pratte and a Hawaii service error knotted the score at 21-21. With the Warriors one point away from taking the second set at 29-27, Pacific scored two points, including a kill from Pratte to tie it up again at 29-29. But the Warriors scored the last two points to finish out the set by a final score of 31-29.
Similar to the battle of the second set, there was 16 tie scores and seven lead changes during the third set. With Pacific trailing 11-10, two errors by Hawaii and a kill from Pratte gave the Tigers a 13-11 lead. Later in the set with the score tied at 24-24, Borchin racked a kill and Daley recorded a service ace, putting Pacific in front 26-24. The Warriors answered by with a four point rally which gave them the lead of 28-26. Hawaii would finish out the set and win by a score of 30-28 and clinch the match 3-0.
Pratte led the Tigers with a match-high of 17 kills.
Hawaii's Joseph Strotman led his team with 13 kills.
The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, April 17 to take on UCLA at the Alex G. Spanos Center. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
