Tigers Suffer Tough 4-3 Loss to UC Santa Barbara

Stockton, Calif. - Despite the doubles victory and an easy 6-1, 6-1 win from sophomore Artem Gramma (Krivoj Roj, Ukraine), the Pacific men's tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Mar. 28.

In singles action following the match conquered by Gramma, Tiger freshman Karl-Erik Paaro (Tallinn, Estonia) suffered a lose in the No. 5 position. Just before then Pacific freshman Christian Kuehne (Morbach, Germany) was defeated by UCSB's Mathieu Forget, 6-2, 7-5. The lose in the No. 6 position put the match at 2-2. 

The next two matches in the No. 3 and No. 4 positions were dropped by the Tigers. Pacific junior Vegerd Veskimagi (Saku, Estonia) battled the Gauchos' Max Taylor for three sets in the deciding match from the No. 4 position with Taylor coming out on top, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. 

The loss dropped the Tigers to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in the Big West Conference, UC Santa Babara moved to 6-5 on the season and 3-1 in conference play following Saturday's action.

 

The Tigers return to the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts when they host Cal Poiy on Sunday, March 29 at 1:00 p.m.
