Eugene, Oregon - Eugene CC Too Tough For Tigers

Pacific plays to 12th during the first day of the Oregon Duck Classic

The temperatures fell; below 40 degrees for much of the opening round. The rain fell; starting towards the end of the first round and continuing steadily through play in the second round. And the Tigers followed suit; falling to the bottom of the leaderboard after their worst rounds since shooting a 317-305 at the Prestige this past October. The Tigers posted rounds of 307-308 to position themselves in last place going into tomorrow's final round.

No Pacific player flirted with the leaderboard all day as TJ Bordeaux's 75-79, +10 was the lowest round the Tigers could muster all day. Alex Johnson and Bayhaan Lakdawala managed three-over 75's in the second round but started off with 80's in the morning. Senior Charlie Van Sicklen and Patrick Kucich, the only two Tigers that had played Eugene Country Club previously shot 36-hole scores of 156 and 157.

Chilling conditions throughout the day and a soaking rain permeated throughout the course but rather than making the course tougher, the top teams adjusted to the weather and went right after the softer greens.

"This (course) was not playing that tough today," said head coach Brandon Goethals. "Our scores reflect that we had no control over our ball flight and could not manage the course, not the other way around."

While the Tigers struggled to a +39 for the first 36-holes, #8 Washington took a jump on the early lead with a five-over par total. Oregon State remained just eight strokes behind at +13 and host school Oregon a shot back of them at +14.

The Tigers try to improve their position in the tournament with a final 18-hole Tuesday morning. Teams will shotgun start again at 8:30 am.
