Davis, Calif. - The Pacific men's tennis team defeated UC Davis, 6-1, on Sunday, Feb. 8 in the Big West Conference opener for both teams at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.

Pacific moved to 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Big West, while UC Davis fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The Tigers swept doubles before taking five of six singles matches.

The doubles matches began with a victory at the No. 3 position as freshmen Christian Kuehne (Morbach, Germany) and Karl-Erik Paaro (Tallinn, Estonia) defeated Josh Albert and Kevin Liang, 8-2. The Tigers clinched the match's first point when junior Renan Delsin (Santa Cruz da Conceicao,Brazil) and senior Moritz Starke (Bamberg, Germany) posted an 8-5 victory over Nic Amaroli and Michael Reiser at No. 1.

Leading the team match 1-0, Pacific earned quick straight set victories at the No. 4 and No. 1 positions by Delsin and Starke. Delsin nabbed a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 4 slot over Tyler Lee, while Starke took down Michael Reiser, 6-3, 6-1.

The clinching point for Pacific came from the number two position. Sophomore Artem Gramma (Krivoj Roj, Ukraine) collected back-to-back tiebreaker victories 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) to defeat Nick Lopez and secure Pacific's team win.

The Tigers are next in action Feb. 14 when it hosts UC Santa Barbara at 1 p.m.
