Stockton, Calif. - The Tigers women's tennis team captured its first conference victory of the season with a 5-2 win against the Gauchos on Sunday, Feb. 8.
Pacific improved to 3-3 on the season, while UCSB fell to 2-1 overall.
Senior Jolanta Twarowska (Hamburg, Germany) sealed the win for Pacific with a hard fought victory in the No. 2 position against UCSB's Jill Damion. Twarowska battled Damion for three full sets dropping the first, 3-6, before making a comeback to win the final two sets, 6-2, 6-2.
The Tigers started the day by sweeping the Gauchos in doubles action, 3-0, to take the first point of the match.
In singles action the teams went back and forth with Pacific junior Svenja Arens (Bensberg, Germany) easily defeating UCSB's Asagi Onaga, 6-2, 6-0, for the second match point. Tiger sophomore Jenifer Widjaja (Sao Roque, Sao Paulo, Brazil), still undefeated for the season, put the Tigers ahead with 3 points effortlessly by winning two sets against the Gaucho's Michelle Murphy, 6-0, 6-2.
Pacific is back in action Saturday, Feb. 14 when the Tigers travel to Moraga, CA to battle Saint Mary's at 1 p.m.
