Pacific Makes a Splash Defeating Fresno Pacific, 177-107, and UC Santa Cruz, 184-110

Fresno, Calif. - Pacific women's swim team defeated Fresno Pacific, 177-107, and UC Santa Cruz, 184-110, during the tri-meet on Saturday, November 21. With these two victories the team improved to 4-2 in dual meets on the season.

In the first event of the afternoon, Pacific earned its first top finish in the 200 Medley relay. Seniors Melissa McGhee (Elk Grove, Calif.) and Devonie Migues (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), along with sophomore Elena Walterman (Framingham, Mass.) and freshman Mallory McGowan (Colusa, Calif.) combined to take first with a time of 1:50.14.

In the 1000 Free, the Tigers took the first three spots. Sophomore Jayme Swalin (Kenmore, Wash.) touched first at 10:29.86, followed by senior KC Albiston, who swam a 10:31.60. Freshman Jenna Chaplin (Nassau, Bahamas) took third when she finished at 10:50.09.

With a time of 1:679.86, senior Brooke Cashion (Irvine, Calif.) captured first-place in the 200 Free. Freshman Laurie White (Jacksonville, Fla.) finished at 2:02.81, to take fourth-place.

In the 100 Back, Migues took second with a time of 58.06, followed by teammate, freshman Becca Wyant at 1:03.30 for third.

McGowan took first place in the 100 Breast, touching the wall at 1:07.71. She captured first again in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:28.01.

Tigers came out on top in the 200 Fly, with Walterman taking the top spot with a time of 2:06.35 and McGhee finished second at 2:08.18.

Finishing at 25.66, Wyant took first-place in the 50 Free, with fellow freshman Megan Machynia (Valencia, Calif.) finishing in fourth with a time of 26.16.

Migues completed the 100 Free in 54.86, to take second-place in the event. Machynia was the next Tiger to finish at 57.21, for sixth-place.

Pacific finished in the top-three in the 200 Back. McGhee swam a 2:13.39 for first-place and Wyant finished at 2:18.05. Cashion followed shortly behind at 2:18.42, to take third.

The Tigers also dominated the 500 Free, with Swalin finishing first at 5:08.79. Albiston touched the wall next for second-place at 5:13.49. Chaplin swam her way to third-place with a time of 5:17.46.

Walterman had her second first-place finish of the day in the 100 Fly, finishing at 58.52. Machynia finished at 1:01.11 to earn a second-place finish.

In the 200 IM, two Tiger seniors took the top spots. Migues finished at 2:10.25 and McGhee at 2:12.16 to give the Tigers another one-two finish.

The final event to round out the day for the Tigers was the 400 Free, where Chaplin, White, Machynia, and freshman Allie Vetterlein (Seattle, Wash.) joined forced to take the first spot, with a time of 3:49.69.

The Tigers will be back in action on December 3-5 for the USA Swimming Short Course Nationals in Federal Way, Wash.
