Johnson's Win Leads Tigers to 8-shot Victory

Oct. 27, 2009

Simi Valley, California - The Tigers did double-duty Tuesday afternoon at the Bill Cullum Invitational where Alex Johnson's individual victory paved the way to the Tigers eight-shot win. Pacific's three-round total of 279-281-283=843 smashed the school record for shots under par as the Tigers finished at 21-under. The 21-under total also broke the Bill Cullum tournament record.

Alex Johnson built a sizeable lead after a first-round, career-low 66 and second round 68. His five-shot lead going into the final round was enough to hold off Kevin Fitzgerald of UC Riverside. It was Johnson's first collegiate victory and the Tigers first victory since they won the Rice Intercollegiate last spring.

Danny Garcia recorded the first top ten of his career by shooting a final round 68 to post a 213; seventh place. TJ Bordeaux also chipped in a 69 in the final round to take 14th and Patrick Kucich recorded another top-20 finish with a two-day total of 216. Freshman Ben Bauch contributed a 72-72-73=217 to help the Tigers move up the leader board.
