Berkeley, Calif. - The Pacific women's swim team was defeated, 158-87, by UC Berkeley on Saturday, October 10 during the first swim meet of the 2009-10 season.
With this loss, the women's swim team falls to 0-1 on the season.
Pacific took a first and second place finish in the 400 Free Relay. The swimmers, who combined for first-place with a time of 3:53.95, were senior KC Albiston (Salt Lake City, Utah), freshman Jenna Chaplin (Nassau, Bahamas), senior Brooke Cashion (Irvine, Calif.) and freshman Becca Wyant (Redmond, Wash.). The second team included sophomore Lia Santini (Bothell, Wash.), sophomore Ellen Barton (Modesto, Calif.), freshman Chloe Lai (Mission Viejo, Calif.), and freshman Megan Machynia (Valencia, Calif.) who combined for a time of 4:02.97.
In the 50 Free, senior Devonie Migues (Ranch Santa Margarita, Calif.) took second-place with a time of 24.94, with Cal's first place swimmer, Liv Jensen, touching the wall at 23.55. Migues also took second-place in the 100 Free with a time of 54.97, for a career best time.
Senior Melissa McGhee (Elk Grove, Calif.) took second-place in the 200 Back with a time of 2:12.63 and was followed by Wyant who finished with a time of 2:16.09. McGhee swam the 400 IM in 4:33.23, which earned her a second-place finish in the event.
Albiston finished the 500 Free in 5:08.40, to capture second-place, and Chaplin finished at 5:21.76, to earn third-place for the event. Another second-place finish for the Tigers was earned by freshman Allie Vetterlein (Seattle, Wash.) in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:00.89.
The swim team will host the Pacific Invitational on October 16-17 at Chris Kjeldsen Pool. The start time on Friday is set for 2:00 pm, and 12:00 pm on Saturday.
