Stockton, Calif. - The third seeded Pacific men's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Big West Championships with a 4-2 victory over the sixth seed, UC Riverside, on Friday, Apr. 25.
The victory lifted the Tigers to 10-11 on the season and set up a meeting with No. 2 seed UC Irvine at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 26. UC Riverside, meanwhile, concluded their season at 7-14.
Down 1-0 following doubles play, the Tigers claimed positions two through five in singles competition in straight sets. Sophomore Renan Delsin (Santa Cruz da Conceicao, Brazil) got the Tigers started with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the third spot to tie the match at 1-1. Shortly thereafter the Tigers secured points from both the second and fourth slots in the lineup, then sophomore Vegerd Veskimagi (Saku, Estonia) sealed Pacific's victory with a 6-4, 7-6 (3) win over UC Riverside's Quoc Doan.
