The Pacific golf team battled back from the middle of the pack to third place entering Tuesday's final round of the Big West Championship. Behind a season-best 67 from senior Chris Rosenau the Tigers posted rounds of 296-292.
The Tigers were competitive on Monday at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita, finishing in third place at 13-over par in the eight-team field. Senior Chris Rosenau shot a 5-under 67 in the second round to finish 1 under for the day and tied for fifth place.
"It's easier and more comfortable in the second round," Rosenau said."I hit my irons a lot better in the second round, and I executed all my shots well and birdied all the par 5s."
Senior A.J. Hohn finished the day at 3-over 147 and tied for 16th. Freshman T.J. Bordeaux finshed the day at 7-over, in 23rd. Fellow freshman Alex Johnson shot a 71-82 and junior Charles Van Sicklen finished 10 over and 29th.
In the team standings, Pacific trails UC Irvine and UC Davis, who are tied at 5-under 571. Sean Shahi of UC Irvine is the individual leader at 6 under, and teammate John Chin is a shot behind.
The Tigers will tee off in the final round at 8:45 a.m. today.
The winner of the Big West Championship recieves an automatic bid into the 2008 NCAA Regionals. The Tigers battle a conference of Cal Poly, Cal State Northridge, UC Davis, UC Irvine, Long Beach State, UC Santa Barbara and Riverside.
